Sunday of Orthodoxy Youth Rally!

Hello, all!

On Saturday, March 3, the Pan-Orthodox celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy will begin! Wahoo!

St. Stephen Serbian Orthodox Cathedral will graciously host as many young people as possible. Saturday, at 4PM, a youth rally will be held for all youth in grades 5-12. Orthodox youth will assemble from the various jurisdictions in the hope of seeing that global Orthodoxy includes all those who will enter the Lord’s house.

While the youth are rallying nearby, Bishop MICHAEL of New York and New Jersey (OCA) will be giving a talk for adults. The title of his talk is, “Our Young Adults in the Orthodox Church.”

It should be a fantastic time simply to come together with others who share the Orthodox Christian Faith and commune with them!

The Youth Rally and adult talk will be followed by all assembling for Vespers at 6:00PM, and refreshments will follow the service.

On Sunday, March 4, there will be a hierarchical Divine Liturgy at 10:00AM! Yippee!

NOTE: The Divine Liturgy will be served at St. Sophia Greek Cathedral in Los Angeles, NOT at St. Stephen.

All parishes in the Antiochian Southern California Deanery will be closed on Saturday evening so as to encourage as much attendance as possible.

I will be will there, for sure, and I certainly hope to see as many of you as possible!

Glory to Jesus Christ!

In Christ,
Christian

Winter Camp St. Nicholas 2012 Official Trailer

Hello, all!

I am working dutifully on the actual video for Winter Camp (which was 2 weeks ago…I can hardly believe it). Sorting through 4 hours of footage is certainly a difficult task, so I appreciate your patience. Maybe you don’t enjoy these videos as much as I do, and you’ve probably forgotten that I was planning to make a Winter Camp video, but I didn’t…so pretend you’re excited about what’s coming you’re way.

For now, enjoy the official trailer! Also, subscribe to the SoCalYouthMinistry YouTube Page!

Upcoming Youth Retreat: Growing in the Image and Likeness of Christ

Hello, all!

On Friday, December 30, St. Luke and St. Mark will be hosting a mini-retreat at St. Luke Church in Garden Grove. The theme of the retreat is “Growing in the Image and Likeness of Christ: Yours, Mine, and Ours,” and it will include several speakers, one of whom is myself. The other two are the priests of St Luke and St Mark, Fr Michael Tassos and Fr Michael Laffoon, respectively.

The retreat should be a fabulous time that is full of food, fun, and fellowship.

The cost is a suggested donation of $10, which is a pretty good deal, I’d say!

All of Southern California is invited, of course, and I hope that as many of you as possible can come!

Please spread the word to the teens at your church, and save the date!

New Youth Ministry Position!

Greetings, Southern California Deanery!

Christ is in our midst!

On September 5, 2011, His Grace, Bishop JOSEPH, appointed me, Christian Gonzalez, to the position of Southern California Deanery Youth Director for the Antiochian Diocese of Los Angeles and the West.

Now, you are likely wondering, “What exactly does that mean?” You’d be right to wonder this.

This means that I will be working in close conjunction with the parishes of Southern California, as well as a couple parishes in Arizona, in order to strengthen youth ministry. By working alongside parish priests, youth directors, parents and teens, it is my hope that our deanery will experience a resurgence of love for Christ and his Church among young people and their parents.

This is an exciting time in our diocese and deanery, as this position’s institution indicates a clear movement toward strengthening youth ministry. After all, it is important that we, as the Church, take Christ’s charge seriously: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 19:14, RSV).

As this new position takes off, I will be visiting the parishes throughout the deanery in a rotational manner. Please note that two calendars are included in the website; this is so anyone can know what I am up to and where I will be at any given moment. That way, if anyone wishes to meet with me while I’m in the area, one can see what my availability is.

I will be working under the supervision of His Grace and three priests. My desire is to work in complete adherence with the vision of the Archdiocese and our Diocese of Los Angeles and the West.

I am deeply honored to be a part of this work, and I look forward to working alongside clergy, youth workers, parents, and teens as we move to form a more cohesive and strengthened vision for youth ministry!

Thanks for your support!

In Christ,
Christian
